While the 9mm projectile is bigger and more powerful than the. The 9mm traditionally is just a handgun cartridge. 22 LR is made for use in both handguns and rifles. 22 LR has a clear edge as a hunting caliber. 9mm is also a centerfire cartridge that is incredibly reliable.Ģ. Hollowpoint 9mm ammunition is designed to expand and deal greater amount of damage to the body. These include soft point, hollow point, and frangible ammunition. Since 9mm is a popular defensive cartridge there are tons of different self-loads available. The ammunition is affordable and abundant as well. At the same time, the 9mm is still an easy shooting and accurate round.Įven when chambered in small and light pocket pistols the 9mm is still pleasant to shoot. It can and does penetrate 12 inches of ballistic gel with ease and is capable of dealing damage to vital organs. The 9mm is currently the standard round of NATO and the United States military.Ī 9mm round is much larger and much more powerful than a 22 lr round. Parabellum is Latin for prepare or prepared for war. 9mm Luger or Parabellum was designed from the beginning as a combat cartridge. ![]() Rimfire primers are simply nowhere near as reliable of centerfire cartridges.ĩmm is a completely different story. Rimfire technology is old and has been replaced largely by centerfire cartridges for a reason. The 22 LR is also a rimfire round, meaning it lacks a central primer. Without a doubt, they can cause severe pain, but relying on pain compliance is a dangerous proposition. The round when striking a person doesn’t penetrate, and the best hollow points don’t really expand much. 22 LR was never designed to be a self-protection round and it serves poorly as one. 22 LR is a rather anemic round and does not reliably penetrate deep enough to strike something critical. Unfortunately, what you’ll come up against is a failure to penetrate. You can rapidly fire the weapon and put most of the rounds in a very tight group. It’s quiet and has very low recoil so it’s comfortable to shoot. Without a doubt 22 LR is an easy shooting and accurate round. Lastly, the round needs to be reliable enough and tested enough to stop an actual attacker. Second, the round needs to be capable of penetrating at least 12 inches of ballistic gel. First, you need to be able to actually accurately shoot the round. When it comes to self-defense there are a few things your bullet needs to be able to do and a few things you need to be able to do. When evaluating a self-defense round you really need to decide if that round can do any of the above. Stopping an attacker is typically going to require you striking something vital, creating enough damage to cause significant blood loss, and causing enough pain to make them change their mind. Self-Defense The 9mm gets the edge for home defense. ![]()

![]() ![]() It was a huge painting with dramatic lighting effects which made it seem as if the details in the painting were moving. The Panorama was exhibited in a building designed for it with special lighting effects. All over Europe viewers were excited by the Panorama-a huge circular painting on a circular wall, usually of the city it was exhibited in sometimes viewers walked around the painting or sometimes they remained stationary while it revolved on rollers. New media in the first half of the nineteenth century also contributed to the development of realism. This means that ordinary people were becoming accustomed to seeing their own world in "popular art"-in magazines and on their own walls. There were different expectations from prints, however they often were not thought of as "high art" and typically they illustrated interesting contemporary events, people, and places. ![]() A lower middle-class person could afford a single print like the one above it could be framed and used as household decoration. By the nineteenth century etchings and aquatints had developed so that books could be easily illustrated. With the advent of prints visual representations were available in multiples and therefore inexpensive. Furthermore, paintings were a luxury item seen by a small and exclusive audience. But this "realism" was restricted to the upper and middle-classes. Somewhat later, artists rendered settings carefully in genre paintings. Weren't Renaissance men and women, for example, interested in their own world? The key to this question is the phrase "their own world." In the Renaissance painters did depict wealthy persons who could afford to have their visages recorded. One might reasonably ask why the term "realism" is used so late in the history of western art. Realistic artists, then, will focus on ordinary, real subjects depicted in natural unposed ways. Even though the figures are arranged in the center of the canvas in the High Renaissance pyramidal composition, their attitudes seem natural and they seem unposed, not even facing the viewer-the way real people appear, as if in a spontaneous snapshot. The painting on the right, Honoré Daumier's The Beggars, is more realistic. Even feeling extreme emotions, people rarely use these kinds of artificial gestures with outflung arms and eyes rolled up to heaven. The engraving at the left of a late 18th century painting is stagey and unnatural, in short, unreal. Realists were often seen as rebels because they departed from the standards of these authorities who controlled the art schools and the exhibit spaces.Ģ) Treatment of subject. The rejection of subjects deriving from historical and literary sources is essentially the rejection of the "Academy," or the art authorities of the day. See, for example, the banner above, a detail of Courbet's Funeral at Ornans, which depicts the funeral of one of his unheroic relatives in an unimportant town. Instead of the Death of Socrates or the Death of Sardanapalus, a realist might paint the death of an ordinary person. Whereas Neoclassical artists were attracted to Greek and Roman subject matter and Romantics often painted medieval and Biblical subjects, realists were interested in contemporary events and ordinary life. ![]() Realism can be defined in two primary ways.ġ) Subject matter. ![]() Toward the middle of the nineteenth century, when some artists were still painting works clearly defined as "Romantic," a new movement was afoot: realism. With help from the supervillain Force, Hammer next hijacked yachts to smuggle opium into the United States. Ultimately, Tony Stark not only cleared his name and destroyed the control device, but finally learned that a major enemy was behind multiple attacks on his interests for years. Angered that he had lost a lucrative bid to Stark International, he took control of Iron Man's armor and forced him to kill the Carnelian ambassador, and set an army of superhuman criminals (consisting of Beetle I, Constrictor, Discus, Leap-Frog, Man-Killer, Porcupine I, Stiletto, and Water Wizard) against Iron Man. He tested this remote control affecting Iron Man's unibeam, sealing plates, and boot jets. In the event that a mercenary under his employ violated his contract, Hammer would send an enforcement unit (usually led by his most reliable supervillain employee Blacklash) to attack the rogue and confiscate his assigned equipment.Īt the start of the Demon in a Bottle storyline, Hammer invented a device called the Hypersonic Scan Transmitter which allowed him to take control of Iron Man's armor. In exchange for fifty percent of the crime profits, he would pay bail for costumed criminals and finance the development and replacement of both their weaponry and equipment. A rival of industrialist Tony Stark ( Iron Man), multi-billionaire businessman Hammer later became a criminal financier using unethical methods using his company Hammer Industries as a front. Justin Hammer was born in Surrey, England and later became a citizen of Monaco. Layton himself recalled in a 2014 interview that he and Michelinie originally created Hammer as the cautionary tale of what kind of person Tony Stark might have become if he stayed on his path as a global war profiteer, as well as a tribute to actor Peter Cushing in Layton's words, Stark and Hammer are essentially in the same line of work, but with diametrically opposed moral views. Justin Hammer first appeared in Iron Man #120 (March 1979), and was created by David Michelinie, John Romita Jr., and Bob Layton. Sam Rockwell portrayed the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Iron Man 2 (2010), and the short film All Hail the King. Hammer reveals that the villains are his underworld mercenaries, secretly armed and contractually obliged to fulfill missions against Hammer's competitors and enemies, such as Tony Stark. As he explains in his first major appearance, he is the reason why many of Iron Man's supervillain enemies have access to extremely advanced technology and why these foes use their equipment for violent crimes instead of profiting by bringing the designs to market. The character is depicted as a villainous entrepreneur, head of Hammer Industries and a frequent adversary of the superhero Iron Man. Even though he is no longer an on-screen superhero in Marvel Cinematic Universe, he definitely is using his powers for the greater good.Justin Hammer is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Karn has an excellent passive effect that stops the opponent from activating artifacts as well. You either ramp and make your strategy succeed, or you end up failing miserably and get wrecked. There are a few exceptions, but it does make this deck a bit of a one-trick pony at being an all or nothing toolbox. Karn’s most significant upside is that, since it fetches stuff from the sideboard directly, you don’t even want to sideboard cards into the mainboard most of the time for games 2 and 3. I’ll briefly go over each card’s effect and when to pick a specific card a bit further down. If you already have your Forsaken Monument, there are many excellent tools in the sideboard that give you the perfect answer against pretty much any deck. Having Karn pretty much means you have seven cards copies of your Monument in the deck (granted, you need to take one turn to fetch it). We run four copies of Karn, the Great Creator. With three copies in the mainboard and a fourth in the sideboard, you’ll find it’s consistent to pull this off thanks to Karn, the Great Creator. Like I mentioned before, your main goal is to get Forsaken Monument onto the field as soon as possible. You can even bring something like Cascading Cataracts onto the battlefield that’ll mana-fix the colors for Golos’s ability, which in return will give you plenty of stuff to play for free. If all else fails, you can also try to survive long enough to cast a Golos, Tireless Pilgrim that’ll fetch one of our colorless producing lands from the deck. With eight mana rocks at the 2-mana slot, four cards at the 3-mana slot, and another four cards at 4-mana, you should never be in a situation where you can’t ramp up by at least turn 3. Yes, that’s right, we have six sources of ramp in the mainboard. Let’s take a closer look at all the key pieces to make this work. You’ll be casting numerous threats and using your lands by putting counters and activating powerful effects. Which means casting your big plays becomes extremely easy. Then, once you untap with all your lands and artifacts, you should now produce 10+ mana a turn. Once you reach five or more mana, your goal is to get Forsaken Monument on the field, usually around turn 4. You play lands that produce colorless mana and then play artifacts that help you ramp like Hedron Archive and Mind Stone. ![]() ![]() It’s risky since that means you’re generally unable to defend yourself for a few turns, but that’s what this deck is all about: risk versus reward. Once you start putting your big mana stuff down, the game has usually reached a point where your opponent has no chance of winning anymore. But once you do get established and can start attacking or dealing damage, you’ll be able to pull off some amazing tricks. ![]() The deck is quite grindy and takes a few turns to set up. Still, with the Monument it suddenly became easier to get these hard-to-cast cards on the battlefield. We already had a lot of good-top-of-the-curve cards like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger along with several versions of Ugin. Monument seals the deal, allowing us to add one extra colorless mana each time we tap a land or artifact and gaining some life. The previously tier-two deck fought its way up to the top thanks to the massive amount of colorless ramp artifacts available. That is, until Zendikar Rising gave us Forsaken Monument.
